‘Be still and know that I am God’ Psalm 46

We live in a world obsessed by movement. Adults open their mobile telephones an average of eighty times a day , teenagers spend one third or more of their waking hours on social media platforms. Everything in today’s world is in the here and now. Need knowledge of a particular subject ask google , want to find a away from A to B waze , hungry ? Send for grab. The old adage ‘ what is life if full of care we have no time to stop and stare’ has gone and along with it the phrase ‘ let me think about it.’

Even in our churches the services seem one long rush as our pastors feel the need to keep the congregation entertained every minute of the time. What an irony that churches have a history as havens of peace , rest and seclusion when in reality that's the last thing that many of them now offer. It is a fact that everyone’s relationship with God is unique no two paths are the same. The door may be labeled Anglican,Baptist, Catholic but the path that leads from it is yours and yours alone. But like all journeys it comes with decisions and lessons which are ours and ours alone their is no divine equivalent of google or waze. But the issue is this God never shouts or pushes us through the door we need to stop, listen and decide in order to feel his presence and hear his voice. You never hear the wind in the trees with the radio on. The best relationships human and divine need time and meditation the strength of love is found in silence true beauty is only ever observed when we stop and take time to appreciate it. Hurry past and it is lost forever.
