'blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe' John 20:29

Belief in an unseen God like the problem of pain is one of the undeniable conundrums of the Christian faith. Why couldn't a loving God give us firm evidence of his existence? why did the risen Christ not show himself to Pontius Pilate ? My belief is the evidence is there if you seek it. The apostle James wrote ' draw near to God and he will draw near to you.' We believe in a God of love and love as we all know is inextricably tied to choice we are free to accept God or reject him the decision is ours. Imagine a world where God had blatantly and obviously made his presence known to us .We would be reduced to a group of robotic serfs stuck forever in a worship based on fear and obligation certainly not love. What father wants the love of a son except on the basis that it is freely given?

But is God really that opaque ? Look at the beauty and mystery of creation. Dawn across a desert, a flock of birds in the rain forest , waves on a beach , the joy of birth , the structure of a feather, music , literature God is all around us if we only stop and look .He has left his finger prints everywhere if we only open our eyes and hearts. ' the stary sky above the moral law within' but is that the end? No there's more stop and think a child born in a stable to a carpenter in the backwaters of the Roman Empire. A king who rode on a donkey and ended his life crucified between two thieves and yet years later billions worship him as the son of God. How can that possibly be? But the real mystery is could it have been any different ?the life of Jesus is so strange and unique change or take away one part of the story and it vanishes we seem wired to accept Christs message or rather we are all wired to see the truth if we choose to do so. The singing of the shepherd never ceases.
