Travel the road of life as prince or pauper the destination remains the same death awaits us all. Interestingly only humans seem to fear death animals appear to regard it as just part of the normal order of things and provided their ends are non violent literally just curl up and go to sleep. If you think about it our fear of death is totally irrational as it's unavoidable and built into the fabric of things we are born we live we die c'est tout. Either there is a life after death or there isn't but one thing is certain if there isn't we won't know about it the light goes off and that's that. But is immortality that attractive an alternative. Life is entertaining and most often as not refreshing but after a thousand years ? How often do you hear the very old complain that they feel tired and fed up .....it's time to rest. Doesn't death give life a preciousness and meaning ' a nought but it's valued' otherwise wouldn't it be more akin to an endless railway journey? Death brings freshness it clears away the old crop bringing new ideas, thinkers, writers, artists it is a perpetual spring.
Christianity is clear that death is not the end but a door in fact life is merely a brief prelude to the eternal bliss of being with our maker. Every book has a final chapter and for Christians it's not an opiate but the logical conclusion to our faith. We believe that Christianity is built on love and the little we can learn about love on this earth makes us aspire for more.Love even in human terms is a well we ache to drink from and once we have tasted it's sweet waters we want more and more. Death assuages this longing once and for all. God is a loving father and with all loving fathers he wants his children to come home.
