In which direction runs the road to God? There is no doubt in my mind that for most churches it runs away from personal choice .Often services are no more than a series of entertainments as the clergy dumb down faith in order to make it a form of Netflix in the vain hope that a Facebook meets strictly come dancing will attract people to God. Sadly the truth is render unto google what is googles it is a mix of oil and water. The Bible is very clear God is our father and we are his children created in his own image the surest route to God is within us for we are a part of him and he us.
Why don’t more churches urge us on an inner journey of self discovery? Sadly I believe that it’s because by its very nature it’s a solitary road with only our soul as the guide. Organized religion can have no part to play except by showing the door to the self and urging us to enter and guess what? Many of the current team of self ordained guides to the divine will panic as they worry that by setting people free they will loose control of what is not and can never be theirs to own . We are each responsible for our soul and our relationship with God as is written in Ecclesiastes he ‘set eternity in the human heart’. Of course it is only right and proper to offer encouragement and wisdom to our fellow travelers but we can only offer signposts the path is a solitary one. Churches that set themselves up as journeys end fail as they offer no lasting satisfaction. How many times can you watch the same movie without getting bored? God alone is everlasting and he only whispers directly to our hearts and souls.
