' God lives in us and his love is made complete in us' 1 john 4

There are I believe two defining features of true love selflessness and creativity. All love that is selfless is pure because it asks for nothing . As the bible reminds us to give is better than to receive. Of course that doesn't mean that it is wrong to welcome love that is returned but the defining factor is the desire to give and share a thing  for its intrinsic worth rather than any form of material reward. The love between two people , friendship , the love of beauty for beauty's sake are linked to a compulsion to give. You can't fall in love and not want to give the best of yourself or even your life to the other person one is inextricably linked to the other and if it isn't then it is a false love. As Christ said greater love hath no man than he who will give his life for his brother. This need to give and share leads on to the second feature namely creativity . Linked to love is the desire to create but it is a creation cemented by the giving and sharing. Why is a baby conceived ? It should be out of the desire of two people to create a physical manifestation built from the clay of pure joy. A baby is not only a reflection of love but the desire of two people to create life so that the new being may also enjoy the blessings of the experience of giving and receiving love. I don't believe that it matters whether it's the creation of new life , art or for that matter a garden . Ask any avid gardener he will say ' he loves' what he does but drill down further and he will talk about the love of creation , of  the evolution of the seed to the plant , of the beauty thus created and its place in nature . What he may not say but what is there is that all these come about as a part of his being .Its not acquired from some outside source.

If you believe in a God I don't see given the amount of good and beauty in this world that he can be other than a loving God for whom creation is a necessity without which he would be denying the love that is his essence . Further more that creation must be free and be able to in turn to create .Otherwise the gift is incomplete and flawed . Evolution self awareness wisdom are all necessary products of the gift of love it cannot be any other way the universe is truly the garden of God.
