Light has always symbolized good just as darkness is married to evil. Light allows us to see clearly so we don't stumble walking forwards, light allows us to read so we can grow wise, light lets us see the truth. The light at the end of the tunnel is a place of safety that we look forward to reaching daybreak allows us to see the beauty of creation the breaking of dawn is the sign of good things to come. Light drives away the false dreams of night and with them the fears and demons of our sleep. One flick of a switch and a dark room filled with menace and uncertainty is transformed into a sanctuary.
We often let darkness into our lives the darkness of depression, hopelessness and despair. We let night descend on our world in the guise of the unspeakable evils of Mao, Stalin and Hitler it's no surprise that the uniforms of the SS were black and their badge the deaths head of death the ultimate place of darkness in the minds of so many. It is not only our hearts that become calloused but also our eyes. What made Churchill and Reagan great was there ability to pierce the gloom and see the darkness for what it was.
Jesus Christ was the greatest bringer of light into the world ' behold the lamb of God' the eternal truths that he brought to us are an everlasting fire that relentlessly brings light down on the world and our actions. After the life of Jesus man could no longer pretend that he couldn't see things as they really are.
Through the ' good news' of the gospels the light was turned on in our hearts and minds for all time.
