" I stand at the door and knock if anyone hears my voice and opens the door. I will come and sit "

We spend so much of our time consumed with ourselves rarely do we stop and focus on what is taking place around us. Taking time to marvel at the beauty of a flower, finding pleasure in watching children at play feeding off their joy and allowing it to enrich our souls. Or even sitting quietly and observing the world going past and contemplating the fact that we are part of a collection of souls moving through time. So much unhappiness is caused by being inward looking it drives us to greed , jealousy, selfishness and inevitable spiritual darkness.Allowing our souls to interact with the world brings wonder and enrichment we were never designed to operate in isolation but as part of a whole. There is a hunger to be part of something larger than ourselves a need to share as part of the web of creation which cannot be satisfied when we hide in the cave of the self.

When we read the gospels we are struck by the inevitability of Christ and the recognition of his coming by those surrounding him. ' you are the Christ the son of the living God' John ' my Lord and my God' Thomas . ' behold the lamb of God ' John the Baptist . Time and again the people around Jesus felt the necessity of the relationship between the divine and his creation when the door opens the light illuminates all.' In the beginning was the word'  if you open your heart it speaks of a truth that is more real than anything we possess and we punish and condemn ourselves if we don't recognize and reach out for it.

How often have you had a conversation with a friend not a superficial exchange of pleasantries but one where you have opened your heart to the other person and allowed the real self to be exposed. Invariably we come away satisfied in becoming more than 'I' instead of loosing we gain  the act of two people opening their souls to each other feels intrinsically right. But in order for this to happen we have to take the first step and willingly open the door. Many people say to me ' why do I have to start a dialogue with God why can't he initiate the conversation?' My answer is that he already has in lays in the nameless longing ,a persistent echo the want for something which we don't have ' no man is an island' we walk into the brothel and realize that in fact we are looking for a church. People say ' I'm happy with myself I don't need God'. But of course it isn't true in each and everyone of us is the spark of recognition of that which is beyond us  a truth that  we long to be a part of again.
