They say that the eyes are windows to your soul. But oh dear! When people hurry past on the street they always seem to be looking down even in restaurants we dine with our mobile telephones rather than with the person sitting opposite. Rarely do you see couples couples searching their partners eyes for the spark of the eternal . We live in a world of shuttered minds and blinkers every experience needs to be immediate like the old fashioned movies the image is held for a second then vanishes to be instantly replaced. Like alcoholics reaching for the next drink we crave the numb forgetfulness of disengagement from the spiritual self we hover on the bank of the river afraid of the irreversible consequences of commitment .
> We've forgotten that we are spiritual creatures that we need to feed the soul within. As C S Lewis said ‘creatures are not born with desires unless the satisfaction for those desires exist a baby feels hunger there is such a thing as food a duckling wants to swim there is such a thing as water if I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy the most probable explanation is that part of me was made for another world`. The white noise of existence drowns out the mirror of reality and the questions that arise from gazing into it.
The teachings of Jesus are an invitation to ' rise with the dawn' to look up and feed ourselves with the only food that really satisfies which are the works of God. Jesus is saying that there is a road map things are not as they are by chance but by design. We are created with a soul and a purpose the teachings of Christ are the users manual by knowing creation we know ourselves. The soul that God gives us is a blessing with a purpose not something that should cause us to be afraid. Relationships, the dawn , dew on the rose have all been designed to bring our souls joy.
