“If thy right eye offends thee pluck it out” Matthew 5

I've always thought of this verse from Matthew as being very extreme and a little weird but Ive come to believe that Christ was making a point about the nature of evil. He`s saying that there cannot be any compromise with the devil. Standing up against wrong rather than seeking to make some form of understanding, a bogus middle ground, takes toughness courage and often pain and loss. Just as treachery is so much easier and softer than loyalty. But seeking to make a 'deal' with wickedness never works. Great men such as Churchill saw this clearly at a time when he was surrounded by apologists for Hitler and the Nazis and what did turning a blind eye in 1938 achieve? The horrific chaos and bloodshed of world war 2 and six million gassed Jews. Evil always shows itself for what it is and we ignore it at our peril.
I see exactly the same thing happening in the Ukraine. Various political figures have started to talk about learning to live with Putin that the world must allow him to save face that some of his claims are justifiable. Did we learn nothing from Salisbury, Chechen, Syria. The worse the evil the more powerful the whirlpool it creates. Look at the destruction and loss cities smashed, civilians murdered, mothers on both sides crying for the completely unnecessary loss of their children families becoming homeless refugees overnight rivers of tears. But the more wicked the crime the worse the whirlpool the economic collapse of the Ukraine especially in the field of agriculture will cause spiraling food prices and inevitable famine which as always will effect the weakest and poorest the most. All over the world mothers will weep for their starving children and the finger of guilt will point directly at the Kremlin. I pray that the leaders of the western world wont forget their history. If evil isn't confronted and destroyed the day of reckoning always comes.

So who decides what is evil, & what isn’t ? Anyway why did Matthew leave the left eye out ? the connection is the same, as the right, so better to pull out the root cause. Always keep aware of the Rashomon effect
