It seems strange when we read in the gospels that even after witnessing the miracles of Christ there were those who still wouldn't accept his word and continued to plot against him . Just like the grand inquisitor in the Brothers Karamazov .There were in the gospels people who knew Christ to be who he said he was but still turned their backs on him. Why do some human beings ,such those who deny the holocaust ,refuse to accept the truth even when it is before their eyes. I see the same pattern with some atheists such as Dawkins whose determination not to believe or even consider the possibility of the existence of God borders on the irrational. This I think comes from a misunderstanding of the concept of freedom. Many of them equate belief with bondage ,a loss of identity and an illusory freedom of choice that they believe combine to diminish mans true worth and potential. But the freedom they cling to is in reality a prison they fall back on a love either for the material or a self constructed world view both of which are false. They ignore the reality that we are spiritual beings it is part of our essence it simply cannot be fed and nourished by ourselves alone as we were never designed that way in the first place. It leaves us where we are today a Prozac generation breathing air without oxygen. The truth doesn't bind us .Understanding our true nature allows us to see ourselves as we really are creatures of spirit as much as flesh and blood. People are fearful because once they acknowledge this fact Christ is always there knocking at our door filling our lives with choices we would rather not make ,consequences brought about by our actions. But the reality is God created us and the world. It is what it is . Truth at its core is freedom and brings us liberation.
