An American doctor friend of mine posed an interesting question. A girl with an inherited genetic birth defect which allows breast cancer to pass from generation to generation within her family goes to a specialist who offers to re engineer her DNA in order to remove the defective breast strand. But then supposing in addition he offered to amend her DNA so she only had blonde haired blue eyed male children.The first would surely be acceptable to any sane and reasonable person but what about the second? Same science applied with a different outcome. I think a lot of people would have problems with the second accusing the doctor of playing God but surely that's exactly what he's doing in the first? All this will become a reality in the next few years God has not only given us the ability to see approaching 'problems ' but the intellectual tool kit to fix them.

God has given us wisdom which to me lays at the heart of the essence of what I believe is the nature of God . Augustine wrote ' thou hast made us of yourself and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee.' Mankind has an in built need to strive for knowledge it is hard wired into us.We constantly look for answers we struggle from year to year to improve our world. There is a pathway to God which wisdom illuminates it breaks through the darkness of ignorance and unknowing it is the breath of God. Karen Armstrong wrote 'God is found in the mind' it becomes the eyes through which we read the book of eternity and the fuel of evolution.

But it seems a divine law that every blessing we receive is capable of being transformed into a curse . The most obvious atomic power limitless energy or destruction the greater the potential blessing then seemingly the more terrifying its abuse. Choice seems a necessity with God providing the twin guides of conscience and the word of God. People say this is all part of choice being fundamental to freedom but I think it goes deeper. Every breakthrough in science , thought, music comes from choosing the right path . Bach is Bach because every note is perfect if he had chosen the wrong note the whole would have become imperfect, medical breakthroughs only come about after many failures we have to find and then choose the right path. Nature is built on harmony the complete puzzle the perfect product of wisdom. The works of God have an inherent beauty, truth and perfection a rightness which speaks for itself . All else is false.
