‘ The God of gaps’

The God of gaps argument is frequently employed by sceptics and atheists to support their position. God over the centuries has been used as a plaster to cover areas of existence that science at the time was unable to explain to the point that many people see science and faith as antipathetic. I agree whole heartly with Francis Collins science, mathematics, biology, physics are the language of God which glorifies his creation. The word wisdom is used time and time again in the bible .God like all caring fathers wants us to share and understand his creation he wants us to read his mind. The strongest bond between a parent and child is not a distant remoteness but a mutual appreciation. Happiness comes by way of explanation and common understanding not commands. I have no doubt at all that as mankind continues to advance through science we will be lead back to the singularity that began it all. That the universe is intelligible is a miraculous gift from God.

In fact I think that atheists that employ the ‘it just is’ argument are themselves postulating a faith in gaps. Dawkins talks about ‘blind genetic replication’ that life is all about the survival of the fittest ‘ some get lucky some don’t’. Romantic love, agape, altruism, beauty for beauty sake, the search for a meaning play no useful role in the Dawkian world view whatsoever. He talks about the’ pitiless universe’ but billions take pity everyday where does it come from? What motivates a mother Theresa nature should make us all Reinhard Heydrichs but that's not the case thank God. What we do know as C.S. Lewis pointed out is that a need is not created in a vacuum it serves a purpose that is very often not material ‘God has set eternity in the human hearts’. Ecclesiastes
